Albi Alla

aallaAlbi Alla provides Alber & Geiger’s portfolio of European and international clients with analysis and strategic insight into a broad range of European issues, utilizing his expertise of the EU institutions, EU law and the various policy-making and decision-making processes. Albi has gained experience in various sectors including foreign sovereign representation, human rights advocacy and telecommunications.

Earlier in his career, Albi worked at a leading international consultancy focusing on improving government accountability and justice systems. He was involved in a wide range of projects in the Balkans, South-East Asia and Africa. Albi was also Director of EU Integration at the Albanian Government, where he oversaw a team of five experts about fulfilling the enlargement requirements. Before joining Alber & Geiger, Albi also worked at the Council of Europe, DG Democracy and Political Affairs where he dealt with the Caucasus and Central Asia countries. Prior, he was a staffer in the House of Commons.

Albi has a bachelor’s from the University of Bath. He also holds master’s degrees in Politics and Government in the EU from the London School of Economics, and in European Union Law from King’s College London.

Bernard P. Auxenfans

auxenfansBernard P. Auxenfans was Chairman of Monsanto Europe/Africa and COO of the Agriculture Business. After beginning his Monsanto career in France he rose through the company ranks in marketing and general management positions in the US, Canada, and Latin America, culminating as General Manager for Europe-Africa. He was named VP and General Manager of the company’s global agricultural operations divisions and President, Monsanto Europe-Africa. He is a member of the International Food & Agricultural Trade Policy Council.

He received his Baccalaureate degree from the Institution Sainte Marie at Bourges, France, and his MS in Agricultural Economics from the Ecole Nationale Superieure Agronomique de Rennes as Ingenieur Agronome. He is a 1985 graduate of the Stanford University Executive Program.

Gustaaf Borchardt

gborchardtGustaaf Borchardt is a seasoned former European official. He was Director in the Directorate General for Environment dealing, among others, with REACH and CLP chemicals legislation, water and marine policies. He was also a Member of the Management Board of the European Chemicals Agency. Prior, Mr Borchardt was Director at the Secretariat General representing the European Commission in the negotiations with the Member States (COREPER I) on subjects such as internal market, environment, energy, health, transport and agriculture. He was also Director in the Directorate General for Justice and Home Affairs, dealing with immigration, border controls and European civil law and human rights. Earlier, he worked in the Cabinet of the Advocate General, P. VerLoren van Themaat, at the Court of Justice of the EU.

Mr Borchardt started his career in banking in London and Buenos Aires before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands where he held several positions, including Legal and Institutional Advisor at the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the EU chairing among others the Group of Friends during the Netherlands Presidency negotiating the Treaty of Maastricht.

After having been chairman of the International Commission of the Protection of Rhine, (Koblenz Germany), Gustaaf Borchardt is now its special representative for the Upper Rhine. He is also chairman of the Timber Procurement Advisory Committee (The Hague) and chairman of the governing board of the International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre (Delft).

He holds a law degree, with specialisation in EU law from the University of Amsterdam.

Carla Eysel

Carla Eysel is specialized in labor policy and regulation with a strong background in employment law.

She was Head of Human Resources and Organizational Development for TÜV Rheinland Group, CEO of recycling company ALBA and is now board member of clinic Charité. She has profound experience in negotiations with labor ministries and administration, trade unions and works councils, both shaping respective legislation and regulation.

She holds a law degree from the University of Tuebingen, Germany and an MBA in International Management from University of East London, UK.

Dr. Andreas Geiger

Dr. Andreas Geiger ProfilfotoDr. Andreas Geiger is Managing Partner of the firm. Before that he was European President & CEO of US lobbying firm Cassidy & Associates in Brussels.

He started his career in the Cabinet of the Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg where he worked on all aspects of EU law. He then became an Attorney at international law firm TaylorWessing based in Duesseldorf and Brussels, focussing on antitrust and state aid issues. After that he became Head of the EU Law Center of Ernst & Young in Brussels covering EU competition policy, telecoms, tax harmonisation, right of establishment, transport policy, free provision of services, free movement of goods, consumer protection and environment policy.

Dr. Geiger is author of the “EU Lobbying Handbook”. He holds a PhD in EU law and a law degree from the University of Tuebingen, Germany, along with a European Masters degree from the University of Bonn, Germany.

Adrian Krasta

Adrian Krasta is a renowned journalist that brings extensive experience to Alber & Geiger’s Media Relations. With a career spanning 28-years in both radio and television, Mr Krasta advises clients on crafting and implementing communication strategies. He assists Alber & Geiger’s clients with TV appearances guidance and speech preparations for the public and private sectors alike. Prior to joining Alber & Geiger, Mr Krasta worked for the BBC World Service in London. Also, he has been in charge of leading TV programmes in leading networks in the Balkans.

He is a visiting professor for Mass Communication and Public Relations in the Journalism Departments of the State University of Tirana and AAB College of Pristina, Kosovo.

Adrian Krasta has Bachelors and Masters in Chemical Engineering a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication and Public Relations from SUNY Fredonia.

Fatos Nano

fnanoFatos Nano was the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania. Prof. Dr. Nano served for more than 5-years as Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania in four different legislatures between 1991 and 2005. He has been in leadership positions for over two decades, including as a Member of Parliament for almost 20-years.

He was the founder and first leader of the Socialist Party of Albania. Under his leadership and reforms, the Socialist Party of Albania made the shift towards a modern social democratic agenda. He oversaw the membership of the Socialist Party of Albania in the Socialist International and Party of European Socialist.

As Prime Minister of Albania, Prof. Dr. Nano was in charge of the transition of the country towards the democratic order. He reinforced Albania’s relations with the West, in particular with the European Union and the U.S. government. He worked closely with the European Parliament, European Commission, European Council as well as the State Department. Former Prime Minister Nano maintains strong relationships with regional and international leadership as well as business leaders.

Former Prime Minister Nano began his political career in 1990 to work as Secretary General of the Council of Ministers. He holds a Degree in Political Economy and a PhD in Economics from the University of Tirana.

Carlo Trojan

ctrojanCarlo Trojan was the Ambassador of the European Commission to the WTO, UN, WHO and other International Organizations in Geneva and Secretary General of the European Commission in Brussels.

He was the EU Negotiator in the WTO Trade negotiations (Doha Round). He started his professional career as legal adviser in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food in the Netherlands.

He joined the European Commission in Brussels as Deputy Chief of Staff of Commissioner Lardinois. He then was Counselor at the Dutch Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels. Carlo Trojan then became Chief of Staff of Frans Andriessen, Vice-President of the European Commission dealing successively with Competition Policy and Agriculture.

Before his nomination to Secretary General Carlo Trojan has been many years Deputy Secretary General representing the Commission in the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER).

Carlo Trojan was for 12 years member of the Dutch Advisory Council on International Affairs dealing with European integration. He was a member of the Dutch Energy Council and Professor of International Trade and European Studies at the Maastricht School for Management.

He has been lecturing for a number of years International Trade Law at the Leyden University.

Carlo Trojan studied Law at the University of Leyden specializing in European and International Law.

Dr. Bertrand Wägenbaur

bwaegenbaurDr. Bertrand Wägenbaur leads the firm’s CJEU litigation department. He is a leading EU litigator having pleaded more than 350 cases before the EU-courts in Luxembourg. His practice includes European competition matters, internal market, tax harmonization, industrial property rights and anti-fraud, covering inter alia Free Trade Agreements, the ACP-EU Convention of Cotonou and the European Convention on Human Rights. He further regularly litigates before the Administrative Tribunal of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva.

Prior to Alber & Geiger he was a partner of EU law firm Kemmler Rapp Böhlke in Brussels. Dr. Waegenbaur is author of “The Statute and Rules of Procedure of the Court of Justice of the European Union”. He is author of numerous publications in legal journals and co-author of the EU competition law handbook Loewenheim/Meessen/Riesenkampff. He holds a law degree from the University of Bonn, Germany, along with a Master of European Law degree from the University of Northumbria, Newcastle and a Doctorate from Middlesex University, London.

Dr. Udo Woll

uwollUdo Woll focuses on competition and State aid law and policy. He also has a strong background on criminal law, public commercial law and regulatory issues.

He has dealt with competition law for more than 15 years, covering his work as a competiton lawyer in the Brussels office of a renowned international law firm and his broad in house experience on competition issues in general and State aid law and policy in particular. He has also worked as a public prosecutor on international white-collar crime.

Udo earned his doctorate from Heidelberg University. He regularly contributes to and heads State aid conferences and publishes articles on these topics.
